In-Depth Comparative Studies

The comparative study is a collection of complementary peer reviewed manuscripts in the form of a special issue. The topic is decided by consensus across AHOP National Centres having consulted their national policy makers. Comparative Studies, given their in-depth nature, are compiled over the course of one to two years. While the core output is a special issue published in a respected journal, several complementary outputs, based on the comparative study findings, will be designed to reach multiple policy focused audiences. In our inaugural AHOP comparative study we are currently investigating the interface between Community Health Systems and Primary Health Care from the perspective of Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal. The cross-country analysis aims to help understand how community level structures and influences from the health sector and beyond, both formal and informal, improve the health of their local populations.
