On 12th October, a consultative meeting on the African Health Observatory Platform (AHOP) was held at the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Ethiopia. The meeting was attended by Mr. Naod Wendrad (Director of Policy, Planning and Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate of the MoH), Mr. Daniel Getachew (MoH and WHO-Ethiopia), Dr. Kassu Ketema (WHO-Ethiopia) and Dr. Assefa Abegaz (AHOP Ethiopia National Centre).
During the meeting, Dr. Kassu and Dr. Assefa provided an introduction to the integrated African Health Observatory (iAHO) and AHOP, respectively. Colleagues from the AHOP Ethiopia NC presented further details on the various outputs and activities of the Platform, notably the development of a Country Health Systems and Services Profile (CHSSP), one of AHOP’s flagship products. Stakeholders discussed the Ministry’s role in informing the development of this tool as well as other AHOP outputs which aim to respond to policymaker need. The Ministry’s Directorate warmly welcomed all activities and assigned an expert who will function as the Ministry’s focal person in the aforementioned task and in the remaining policy initiatives of AHOP. The meeting concluded with all parties agreeing to hold further follow-up discussions to refine specific stakeholder roles and to advance the work of this collaboration.
